Adding a Header and Footer to a Microsoft Document

A header is the common content that is displayed at the top of each page, while the footer is common content that is displayed at the bottom of each page.

Setting Header and Footer Location

Header is placed inside the top margin while the footer is placed in the bottom margin.

Note: The header/footer are placed inside the margin areas and so their  position should be less that the margin space. For example, if the top margin is 0.75″, set the Header location at 0.5″.

  1. On the Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click the dialog box launcher. The Page Layout dialog box is displayed.
  2. Click the Layout tab.
  3. In the Headers and footers group, set the location of the Header and Footer. The header position is measured from the top edge of the page, and the footer position is measured from the bottom edge of the page.

  4. Click OK.
